Honestly, now.

Spring in Korea

Spring is just winding down here. I thought I’d share some of the photos.

However, I changed the way I put my photos on the internet and now I’m having some trouble figuring out how to get them linked from there to here.

Photos (mostly random)

Here’s hoping that turns out.

A fantastic weekend!

Yeah, yeah.  It’s been a while since I posted.  Try not to fall over from shock.

I had a really, really good weekend.  On Saturday, a bunch of us got together and had a scavenger hunt around Seoul.  Here are a few examples from the list:

12. Have a foot race through the subway.

19. Take a picture with a police officer (bonus: wear their hat)

31. Get an ajuma to sign a chopstick wrapper

40. Buy a soda for a random PC Room attendee

46.  Finish a soju kettle from “The Goldfish”

47. Drink a cup of odang juice

50.  Ride on a bus for 10 minutes (standing up) without touching anything

57.  Try something (clothes, jewelry) worth at least 1 million won

61. Karoke in public

72. Pictures at 6 Starbucks

Needless to say, we (Mike, Drew, Chris, Aggie, etc.) had a good time.  However, I had to leave early because I had to go…..

are you ready for this?…….

SWING DANCING!

Yes, that’s correct.  I finally found swing dancing in Korea!  I was one of only three foreigners there.  However, people were very kind to me (once they figured out I could dance, well, sort of).  I’m out of practice anyways, and everyone here does Lindy Hop (8-count swing) and not the East Coast (6-count) that I’m used to.  To top it off, people here are pretty darn good.  Granted, some are better than others, but still I was extremely (and pleasantly) surprised.  It’s going to be work keeping up with people here.  Heck, it’s going to be work dusting off the rust from my dance shoes, much less pick up a new dance.  I did some Lindy Hop back in Kansas, and while the basic is still the same there are a heck of a lot of differences.  mostly in which moves people choose.  Right now, my main hobby is looking up Lindy Hop on YouTube and trying to piece together what I need to know.  (I’ve managed to find a pretty decent beginner video. ) However, I haven’t found anyone in Migeum that would be willing to dancing in my living room with me, so it looks like I’m on my own.

So, if anyone out there wants to come with me, please let me know.  It’s near the Gangnam Subway stop, but its pretty difficult to find.  I don’t think I would have found it without help (thanks Denny!).

Anyways, it’s late and I should be getting to bed.  Take care and be good.

No. (and keep on walking)

So promoters here hand out tissues or candy on the street.  Most of the time, I don’t really care for what they are promoting.  (And I don’t really like the candy and I usually have enough tissues.) Honestly, I’ve stopped paying attention.

So I was walking to lunch with my Korean-Canadian friend, Mary, and one such promoter comes up to me, says something,  and tries to hand me tissues.  I smile, say “no” in my very best Korean and go on my way.  And Mary bursts out laughing.  I asked her what the woman said and Mary said that she really shouldn’t tell me.  But after about 15 seconds of hassling, she caved.  Here is how the conversation went.

Random Korean Woman:  Believe in Jesus!!

Me:  No.

Hmm…..I really should learn the phrase “No, I don’t want your tissues. Thank you.”

Day of Green and a Night of Fun

Carina the cookI know I’ve been a bad poster.  I’m still waiting to steal some photos from a friend of mine, but in the meantime here are some others.  (Brought to you by Mary and Rachel.)

So on St. Patrick’s Day, the friendly locals at the Arion building gathered to celebrate with green food, Bailey’s Irish Cream, and Guinness.   We also play a wicked card game (I can’t remember the name, but it’s by the same people who made Cranium.).

First photo is of Carina the cook.  Who was very kind in taking over the majority of cooking that morning.  (Or she just wanted to make sure it wasn’t burnt.)

Drew and Carina

Second photo: Carina, Drew, and shots of Guinness.  Served with green pancakes and green hashbrowns.

The smack talk begins

Slightly blurry photo.  Chris was reluctantly joining in to the game.  It was a fun game.

On the left is Mary, the queen of smack-talk.  She has a competitive side like no other.  :-)

Night of Fun

We all went out for a night of dancing and fun.  This are taken from the night that my stuff walked off.  However, I still count it as a good night.  I did have a really good time.

Rachel and Mary First Photo: Rachel and Mary.

Rachel, Mary, Carina and I all went salsa dancing.  Later, we met up with Aggie, Drew, and Mike.  After a fun while at Seoul Pub and egg sandwiches from a street vendor, Aggie, Drew, Mike and I went out dancing.

I didn’t make it home until 7am.  Yeah, I can’t do that very often.

Last Photo:  Aggie (I believe this is her first appearance in my blog.) and I hanging on every word coming from Mike’s mouth.
